Kentucky Senator and presidential candidate Rand Paul appeared on the Marcus Lamb show on the Daystar Television Network, one of the largest Christian television networks in the world. Paul spoke about a few issues from his new brand of Republicanism and the importance of criminal justice reform. See video below:
Paul said, “if you look at surveys, white kids are using illegal drugs just as much as black kids, but the white kids get better attorneys or they never get caught because no one is patrolling their neighborhoods.”
“As a consequence, we have two million black young men in prison for non-violent crimes. I’m a Republican and we’re suppose to be the party of family values, but you can’t have family if you lock up dad,” said Paul.
Paul not only reached a large block of Evangelical voters but received a good response from Bishop T.D. Jakes, pastor of The Potter’s House and founder of the offender re-entry program in T.X.
Paul sets himself apart from other candidates by reaching out to Evangelicals and blacks by talking about issues like criminal justice reform and ending the failed “war on drugs.”
Paul’s statements are relevant in light of the racial issues and the concerns over the rising paramilitary police state and new voters are beginning to take notice.
